FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The first thing you will notice about Teacher is that he is not human. Instead of a human face, he has the top half of a goat-like skull, with no noticeable mouth or jaw bone. His entire body is pitch black, a matte, inky color that rejects light, except for his eyes, which are have white irises on white sclera. He towers above most people at something like seven feet tall, and the long spiraling goat horns on top of his head make him seem even taller. One of the horns is shorter than the other, and seems to have been sliced rather than broken. His body is lanky and gaunt, with slightly elongated seeming limbs. He has a long, whip-like tail. He dresses gentlemanly, in leather shoes, long sleeves, trousers, a waistcoat, and jacket. In Kenos, he almost always wears gloves, minimizing how much of his dark skin is visible (touchable). The only items usually on his person are a doctor's medical kit, a locket, and a small box (containing Shiva's shard). His voice is rather low and usually quite even.

Body language wise, Teacher can be... rather eerie. Those who pay attention will notice that his chest does not rise and fall as one would expect someone breathing to do. He holds himself apart from everyone around him, seemingly making sure that no one is in within reach of being able to easily touch him. His pale gaze occasionally grows very distant, as if he is not really mentally there. In the moments when he is lost in thought, he does not move a single muscle, just sort of freezing and staring into the distant as if there was nothing tethering him to the present place or time.

SHARD

[HERE] His shard is a dry-looking, splintered hunk of gemstone embedded in the base of his throat. It is usually hidden behind the folds of his cravat.

ASPECT TATTOO

His tattoo is located under his shard, just below his clavicle.

PERSONALITY

Teacher comes across to most people as a very polite, quiet, and reserved individual. In fact, if he didn't look as horrifying, he'd potentially be so mild-mannered that he wouldn't leave much of a strong impression at all, beyond the strange abnormalities that come from his Cursed nature (see Powers section). He seems curious about things around him without being overly nosy, present without being dominating, and concerned without being overbearing... except towards Shiva, the young girl in his charge. Towards her, he appears as a doting caregiver, almost a father figure, focused almost exclusively on ensuring her safety and happiness. The only thing that seems to alarm him apart from threats to Shiva is the possibility of physical contact with unsuspecting others, not wanting to be responsible for spreading the Curse that has taken so much from him and others.

BACKGROUND

Though he is seen by others in his world as a threat, an Outsider, a Cursed Black Child... Teacher was once a castle town doctor with a wife and a newborn daughter, as normal as anyone before he became Cursed in a [REDACTED] incident he no longer can remember. Throughout the years since his Curse, he has lost almost all memory of his past life, and lived in a vague haze without much sense of time because of his body's abnormalities. Only Shiva's arrival has given a sharp focus to his days, because she's technically his [REDACTED]. Because of this, his world seems to revolve around this mysterious little Girl from the Other Side. Without her, he runs the risk of becoming Lost... but perhaps he will find something instead?

ABILITIES & SKILLS

CHARACTERISTICS OF AN "OUTSIDER"/"BLACK CHILD" • Functionally Immortal: He possesses no soul, which makes his body more of an empty vessel that cannot die through conventional means, such as beheading or blood loss. He can, however, be immobilized, and he is just as easily injured as any mortal.

• Functionally Dead: He does not need to do many of the things that living beings have to, such as breathe, sleep, or eat. He also does not feel the urge to fill these needs, and does not experience things like fatigue or hunger.

• Afflicted with Hypoesthesia: He does not register physical sensations like pain, temperature, taste, or touch. He no longer remembers well what they felt like.

• Afflicted with Amnesia: He does not remember most anything of his life as a human, including his name, his family, his friends, what motivated him, or how he truly came to be a Black Child (though he does remember the skills he possessed as a doctor). He also cannot remember most of his life as Black Child before meeting Shiva, remembering it only when prompted by visual cues or feelings of deja vu. In some moments, he lapses into periods where he forgets everything around him.

• A Curse Carrier: He is capable of spreading the Curse through contact with bare skin. The Curse changes those afflicted into Black Children with ink black skin and skull-like faces. Their souls will quickly decay, robbing them of memories and personality. Within a month, the Cursed person loses control of their thoughts, speech, and movement, growing branches and other twiggy growths from their bodies until their bodies eventually warp into trees, leaving behind only their skulls. (Thankfully for Kenos, this Curse should only be transmittable to humans from Teacher's canon.)

KENOSIAN MAGIC • Alarm: You set an alarm against unwanted intrusion. Choose a door, a window, or an area that is no larger than a 20-foot/6 meters cube. Until the spell ends, an alarm alerts you whenever a creature larger than a mouse touches or enters the warded area. When you cast the spell, you can designate creatures that won't set off the alarm. You also choose whether the alarm is mental or audible. A mental alarm alerts you with a ping in your mind if you are within 1 mile/1.6 kilometer of the warded area. This ping awakens you if you are sleeping. An audible alarm produces the sound of a hand bell for 10 seconds within 60 feet/18 meters.

• Druidcraft: Whispering to the spirits of nature, you create one of the following effects within 30 feet/9 meters:
- You create a tiny, harmless sensory effect that predicts what the weather will be at your location for the next 24 hours. The effect might manifest as a golden orb for clear skies, a cloud for rain, falling snowflakes for snow, and so on.
- You instantly make a flower blossom, a seed pod open, or a leaf bud bloom.
- You create an instantaneous, harmless sensory effect, such as falling leaves, a puff of wind, the sound of a small animal, or the faint odor of skunk. The effect must fit in a 5-foot/1.5 meter cube.
- You instantly light or snuff out a candle, a torch, or a small campfire.

• Mage Hand: A spectral, floating hand appears at a point you choose. The hand lasts until you dismiss it. The hand vanishes if it is ever more than 30 feet/9.1 meters away from you.

Writing Style: I do brackets but I don't mind other formats.

Backtagging: Alright, within reason. If there's a lack of communication about delays in tagging and the thread isn't development-heavy or plot-related I may drop it if it drags on for too long or if tags start coming with large gaps in between. If we're in contact about things, this isn't a problem. (Note: If threads keep getting dropped no communication I will stop pursuing CR.)

Offensive Subjects: No particular squicks, but I will tell you if something comes up.

IN CHARACTER

Physical Violence: Welcome, especially because it's... kind of fun to play his kind-of-immortal thing and have characters be like wtf why isn't he dying... Though Teacher will rarely initiate violence, he will defend himself if attacked. I am okay with most injuries.

Death/Dissipation: I'd like to avoid it while he's still a new character, but I'm open to it with the right plot or moment!

Physical Affection: Teacher will avoid touching other characters as much as possible, insisting that they will be Cursed if they come into contact with his bare skin. He will try to physically dodge or slap away touch if he sees it coming. If he does accidentally touch someone, he will panic slightly.

Shipping/Sex: DO YOU REALLY WANNA DO THIS... He'd be a cute eldritch house husband if you trained him right but, come now. He doesn't have the sensation of touch, how does it get hard???

Mental/Communion: Welcome! He will find the method of communication novel and useful. Attempts to probe his mind will find... gaps, lots of gaps, and vague misty space where most people's emotions and memories would be.

Offensive Subjects: He doesn't seem to take offense at most anything.
